He was interested in technical education, helping to form Imperial College, and also chaired the Council of the Royal Society of Arts. Magnus was awarded his knighthood for services to education.

- The artist was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers. She lived in Muswell Hill, North London, and exhibited regularly in pre-war years at the Royal Academy. She travelled to both Spain and Portugal in search of subjects for her plates. This picture was a presentation plate for the Print Collectors Club in 1958. There is an example in the V&A.
