Consultants Ex Nihilo have been commissioned to conduct an evaluation of the MDS website, to gain feedback from visitors on their user experiences, and document any areas which may benefit from improvements in the future.
We are particularly interested to understand the views of researchers and academics, who are potential consumers of data from MDS as part of conducting research. We are seeking feedback from the perspective of general navigation and exploration of the site, and from how easy it is to search through data items and export data.
On Wednesday 19 March, 11.00am – 3.30pm, we will be running an in person workshop with the following aims:
- Offer the opportunity for attendees to learn more about what MDS is
- Explain what MDS offers to museums and researchers
- Take the opportunity to seek feedback during this session about MDS and how it couple be improved in the future
Lunch and refreshments provided and the event will take place in Room 1.01 – Sir Bob Burgess Building, University of Leicester, Leicester, LE2 6BF.
If you have any questions do get in touch – hello@exnihiloconsulting.co.uk.

Getting ready for MDS
A great strength of MDS is that there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach. Each museum will have its own reasons for signing up and these will influence how much data is shared and on what terms. This session is for those who want to explore the data-sharing options offered by MDS and see how the process works.

If you’re going to the 2025 Museums + Heritage Show (and you really should) come and chat to the MDS team at the Collections Trust stand. We’ll be there both days to answer questions and show you how it all works.
