Collection history (Collection development policy)
The museum was founded by local people who recognised the significance of RFC/RAF Montrose to local and national aviation history and wished to collect, preserve and make accessible material related to it. The former HQ building of RAF Montrose was acquired in 1995 and photographs and artefacts began to be put on display.
A development officer (grant funded) was appointed in 2004/05 and the process of creating a museum which was open to the public began. Since then the artefacts, documents and photographs collected by its founders has continued to grow largely through donations, often from the families of men and women who served at Montrose and the surrounding area.
The Heritage Centre continues to grow in size and professionalism.
