  British Portraits

  A large collection of British portraits, predominantly by local artists and of local sitters, exists at Leamington Spa Art Gallery and Museum. The collection dates from 1567, with an unattributed portrait of Dorothy Shirley (b. 1571) to the mid-20th century and is particularly strong within the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A few contemporary portraits have also been accessioned into the collection. Many of the portraits have been acquired via bequest. There are also several portraits of medical professionals within the medical collection.
