Social History Collection
Documentary material, objects and images relating to the history of the Police Force divided into pre 1829 and post 1829 items, the latter featuring the Special Constabulary, Civilian staff, Police Cadets, Volunteers and other temporary staff. There are objects relating to criminal investigation, crime, criminals, courts, prisons and punishment and also specialist police departments such as the mounted police and dog sections. Police welfare organisations such as the Police Federation and various Crime Support/Assurance groups are also featured, together with buildings associated with the police service and issues such as Royal Visits and Home Office documents.
