- Photograph entitled 'Group from Sordello by Browning' taken by Julia Margaret Cameron in 1867. Albumen contact print from wet collodion negative. This photographic study of Henry John Stedman Cotton (1845-1917) and Mary Ryan (1848-1914) forms part of the Herschel album which Cameron created for her friend Sir John Herschel (1792-1871). In 1840 Robert Browning (1812-1889) published 'Sordello, A Poem in Six Books'. Sordello was an Italian poet/warrior of the early thirteenth century.
