- Text:
- The Mayo was built in 1987. It is currently operated by DSND. Previous operators include Subsea and Stena.
The Mayo is a diving support vessel, fitted with a 16 man saturation diving system rated to a depth of 450 metres. The vessel has two diving bells and a hyperbaric lifeboat. It also has a facility for air diving. The vessel can support working and observation ROVs (remotely operated vehicles).
Typical jobs are related to construction support and well abandonment, such as pipeline tie-in work and hydrostatic testing.
The vessel has eleven marine crew but can accommodate up to eighty people.
In October 2001, Mayo returned from the Barents Sea where it was involved in the recovery of the Russian submarine Kursk. Divers working from Mayo cut holes in the submarine's hull and secured the cables used to lift the vessel.
