He exhibited widely in prestigious solo and group shows in the UK, including the Royal Academy, the New English Art Club, the Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the Royal National Eisteddfod of Wales. He shared his father’s penchant for portraiture and large-scale figure compositions, devoting the majority of his time in his later years to working on large religious subjects. His works are housed in the National Museum of Wales, the National Library of Wales, Newport Civic Centre, Cyfarthfa Castle Museum, Bangor University, University of Wales Lampeter and Aberystwyth University.

Studied at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, where he has taught since 1990 as Senior Lecturer and Keeper of the School of Art Museum and Gallery. In 2005 he was appointed Head of the School of Art. His written work includes published catalogues on numerous artists including Edgar Holloway, John Elwyn, Gwilym Pritchard and George Chapman. He has produced paintings, linocuts and screenprints including a series of works recording the history of the now demolished house at Hafod
