INSIDE:
Our Voice: Words from hackney is a celebration of the work generated through the Words Unite campaign, a community-wide initiative to get Hackney reading. The collection of writing set out in this book aims to give a flavour of what the campaign is about.
It showcases some of the excellent work that has been created by Hackney pupils through a number of Words Unite community events, as well as the Linklaters Reading and Writing Challenge and the Hackney Poet Laureate competition.
Words Unite has been the focal poitn for Linklaters' support for improving literacy across Hackney: it has enabled a successful community partnership to develop between the corporate world of Linklaters, local community groups, local govermnent, voluntary organisations, libraries and schools. It has encouraged adults and children to become enthusiastic, independent and inquiring readers. Above all, Words Unite has been about inspiring people to read more, whether alone or by reading together with family and friends.

I BACK HACKNEY WORKERS IN THEIR FIGHT FOR PAY JUSTICE
Dear Mayor of Hackney Philip Glanville,
As the Mayor of Hackney I am sure you agree that the Hackney workers working throughout the pandemic for key services in the community deserve a pay rise. It is not fair that workers are being forced to accept a 1.75% pay offer when inflation is around 10%.
This is a significant pay cut to wages that have stagnated for years. Please do the right thing and ensure that these workers that we rely on for basic services and who have risked their health and that of their loved ones during the pandemic are given a decent pay rise.
Hackney council has £300 million in reserve fun. We ask you to use it to give our key workers a decent pay rise and enter into meaningful negotiations with Unite the Union to end this dispute. You have the power to sort this out.

Kevin Courtney, General Secretary NUT
Anntoinette Bramble, Deputy Mayor Hackney
Richard Brown, head Teachers The Urswick School and Chair of Hackney Schools’ Forum

The cuts will be devasting for hackney schools
£23.329.088 budget cut, £825.06 cut per child, equivalent to 626 teacher job cuts or…1200 support staff job cuts.
Already we are seeing the following across the country:
Cuts to intervention posts,
cuts to support staff,
cuts to extra-curricula activities,
increased charging for music lessons etc.,
lack of founding for resources,
increased class sizes,
narrowing of the curriculum
and this is just the beginning of the cuts
