Obverse: a portrait in relief of Archibald Forbes, short hair and large moustache, wearing a dress jacket decorated with various medals. Inscribed around edge 'ARCHIBALD FORBES MEDAL IN HISTORY' and signed an dated by manufacturer. Reverse: to the left and bottom of medal in relief, is a large sprig of leaves with a small cross at the bottom. Inscribed 'UNIVERSITY OF ABERDEEN. Catherine I. Gavin, 1928'.
