- Brief description:
- Land Rover, 109 Pink Panther, 3/4 ton 4x4 utility vehicle, 1969. Army registration: 10 FG 90. Type used by the Special Air Service in Aden and Kenya during the 1960s and 1970s. This Land Rover was manufactured in 1969 and came into service with the British Army in July 1969. In September 1981 it went to 22 Special Air Service Regiment. ‘Pink Panthers’ got their nickname from the pink colour they were painted. This was intended to make them less visible in desert conditions. This colour worked well in regions where the sand was a pinkish shade, like some desert areas of America (where the colour was originally developed), but was less effective in African regions. The fresh paint colour would have been less pink.
