Person's biographical note:
Painter and printmaker. Grew up in Normandy. Studied at Birmingham College of Art, 1941-43, before serving in Egypt for the RAF in the Second World War, 1943-47. On his return he studied at the Royal College of Art, 1947-50. He then taught at St Martin's and Hammersmith Schools of Art before obtaining a post at the Royal College of Art, 1955-90, where he was appointed Professor of Printmaking in 1984. He exhibited through the Redfern, St Georges and Zwemmer Galleries during the 1950s. He produced gouaches, etchings, screenprints, monotypes and lithographs of colourful abstracts, often inspired by visits to the Normandy coastline
