Brief description:
“There is a sense of theatre, performance and colour that exist in the game.” A mass of imagery circulates around Rugby World Cup 2015. Sank’s challenge was not to repeat this in her photographs of Devon’s rugby communities. For Touch-Line, Sank enters this environment and seeks out something different, prompting us to look at the culture of rugby in a new way. Sank avoids the conventions of sports photography to present a surprising and touching perspective on highly physical encounters. There are images of people playing the game, but the focus is on the culture, the group dynamics and the ritual that surrounds rugby. This object is not on display.
