- Object name(s):
- Bowling Trophy
- Brief description:
- This silver-plated trophy was awarded to a J. A. Mottershead for winning the ‘Imperial Bowling Competition’ on the 15th August 1914. They must have been very pleased indeed! It was presented by the directors of the Imperial Electric Theatre, Newton Abbot. Located on Queen Street, this cinema played a significant part in the development of the town’s leisure facilities. Opening in September 1913, it was one of at least four cinemas to have operated in the town. It finally closed its doors in January 1961, having entertained the townsfolk through some intense periods of history, including the two World Wars.
