The book is a history of the school with chapters on: the Foundation of the school, the early years, the New School, Thomas Arnold, the men who came after Arnold, the school at the end of the 1800's, the school in the 20thC, a tour round the school buildings, everyday life at the school, games at the school and a short piece on the Great Rebellion of 1797. The back of the dust jacket advertises books in the series: Charterhouse, Christ's Hospital, Harrow, Mill Hill, St. Paul's, Shrewsbury, Westminster and Winchester. The price for each book was five shillings.
