Frederick Delius (1862 - 1934), Composer, b. north of England. Delius was sent to Florida in 1884 to manage an orange plantation but returned in 1886 to study music in Germany. Influenced by Grieg, Wagner, and the African American music he had heard in Florida, he had a unique style, characterised by his individual orchestration and his use of chromatic harmony.
