Ribbon: Ribbed silk in Royal Stuart tartan consisting of red, blue, black, white, green and yellow check. Ribbon device: Secretary's device in gold plated silver consisting of crossed quills tied by ribbon. Hanging device: Edinburgh University coat of arms consisting of a gold plated silver shield infilled with white enamel and with a dark blue enamel cross dividing the shield into four equal quadrants. The top quadrant contains a thistle in green and purple enamel and the bottom quadrant contains a three-towered castle in brown enamel. At the centre of the cross is an open book in white and black enamel. The shield is framed by gold plated silver thistles and below it is a banner with scrolling ends in gold plated silver infilled with light blue enamel and with text reading 'UNIVERSITY OF / EDINBURGH / LODGE 2974'.
