Apron (dress) for a Grand Deacon, mid nineteenth century.

Brief description:
Rectangular apron with triangular flap, in white leather and with a border of ribbed silk, in dark blue with gold lace edging and finished with gold fringe. Suspended from the flap are two ribbons in the same silk, each ended with a bar of gold purl and pearl purl and finished with gold bullion tassels. There are three levels in embroidered in gold and edged in purl, one on the flap and two on the apron. At the centre of the apron is the device of a Grand Deacon spangled and embroidered in gold, being a dove with an olive branch in its beak within a wreath of wheat and acacia. The apron is lined in blue silk and has a belt of dark blue silk with a gilt metal buckle.
