- Painter. Grew up in Pwllheli, North Wales. Studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, 1957-61, and taught at Waverley Grammar School, Birmingham, 1962-66. He works as a portraitist, particularly of Welsh notaries, with sitters including the Prince of Wales, Bryn Terfel, Barry John, Enoch Powell and George Melly

- Dr. Gareth Owen was Principal of University of Wales, Aberystwyth from 1979 to 1989. He studied Zoology and lectured at the University of Glasgow, 1950-64 and Queen's University of Belfast, 1964-79. His research interests included electron microscopy, and the morphology of mollusca and brachiopoda. On arriving at Aberystwyth he learnt Welsh and was appointed an Honorary Member of the Gorsedd in 1983
