- Members of the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps in front of Nissan huts, 1918 (c). Postcard, World War One (1914-1918), 1918 (c). The Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) was formed in 1917 to free up valuable and experienced soldiers from the rear areas for front line service. The women of the WAAC replaced them, undertaking a variety of roles that were crucial to the war effort.
