Text:
And Then We See is a woodcut hand-printed on Japanese paper. The colours emerge from an intuitive process, based on experimentation while printing. The text offers an open sentence that can equally resonate with themes of community, politics and religion. Using ‘And Then We See’ as a starting point, the artist further interrogates ‘Then: “What needs to happen? So that we will see. That is the political question”.’

Andrea Büttner’s practice connects art history with social or ethical
issues, exploring broad-ranging topics such as poverty, work, community, belief, botany, and philosophy. These are articulated through formats encompassing printmaking, sculpture, painting, weaving, photography, video, and collaborative projects.
