Pattern 1821 light cavalry trooper’s sword, 3rd Cavalry Hyderabad Contingent. These swords, with their pipe-backed (rounded-backed) blades, were still used in India as late as 1887, long after they had been abandoned by the British Army. The Hyderabad Contingent, the army of the semi-independent princely state of Hyderabad, received much of its weapons and equipment, as well as loan-officers, from the Government of India.
