- Comments:
- The Charter House, Coventry is a grade 1 listed building that was originally built in the 14th century, with additions added in the 15th, 16th and 19th centuries. The Wyley family bought the Charterhouse in 1848 and William Fitzherbert Wyley took over in 1889. The family was in the pharmaceutical business and he further developed this into a wholesale business. He was a freemason and is for whom the Lodge is named. He was also founder of the Chamber of Commerce, and served as the organization’s second president from 1904-1906. He became Mayor of Coventry in 1911. The Charterhouse is now a part of a Trust and is a center for arts and culture.
