Brief description:
Painting, watercolour on paper, The Royal Albert Bridge, Saltash, by Anton van Anrooy, about 1935. Original artwork for a Great Western Railway poster. Depicts the view towards Saltash from the Devon side of the bridge, with a train hauled by a steam locomotive crossing from Cornwall. The locomotive is beneath the inscription on the portal reading "I.K. Brunel, Engineer, 1859". The Saltash ferry and a yacht are sailing on the River Tamar. Beyond, on a hillside, is the town of Saltash. Signed at bottom right. Text below reads "The Royal Albert Bridge, Saltash. Brunel's famous link between Glorious Devon and the Cornish Riviera". The GWR 'roundel' logo is at both bottom left and right. Framed and glazed. Label on the reverse records framing by the Alexander Gallery of Bristol, dated 25th September 1978.
