Members of the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps, 1917 (c). Photograph, World War One (1914-1918), 1917 (c). The unrelenting casualty rate on the Western Front persuaded the British government to raise the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) in December 1916 to release experienced soldiers from non-combatant roles. The WAACs took their place. One of two postcards of the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (1917) and Queen Mary’s Army Auxiliary Corps at Boulogne.
