Title:
Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea 1985-2001
Brief description:
With the demise of the Greater London Council in 1985 the house was taken over by the London Residuary Body who were charged with disposing of the former GLC assets. In April 1980 the Trustees of the Victorian Society entered into a leasehold agreement with the GLC wherby they would open the house as a museum. A subcommittee of the Victorian Society and a staff of volunteers adminstered the museum from September 1980. Following several years of negotiations the property was transferred to the The Royal Borough in July 1989. De facto management passed over in January 1989. Throughout this period the Victorian Society continued to administer the house. On 8 Jan 2001 the Victorian Society formally handed over the keys to the house to the Royal Borough.
