- The connection of Welshman Prof. Sir David Hughes Parry (1893-1973) with the University of London began when he accepted a lectureship in Law at LSE in 1924. In 1939, he was appointed Chairman of the Academic Council of the University of London. He was the founding Director of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (1947), remaining Director until 1958, Chairman of the University Court 1962-1970, and Vice-Chancellor of the University of London 1945-48. His legacy to the University also includes a gift of the publications of the Gregynog Press, a Welsh private press, all in the special bindings issued by the Press, in 1966. A student hall of residence has been named after him. Bust on wooden plinth
