Object name(s):
Toy Mouse
Brief description:
This standing toy clockwork mouse with red shorts has a velvet body with felt ears, bead eyes and nose, on a metal frame of arms and legs. There is no key but there is a winding mechanism under the left arm. He once had little felt hands and feet, but has done too much dancing and they have worn away. When wound up, his long arms would spin and allow him to ‘tumble’, or dance, along a flat surface. Some sources identify this model as Mickey Mouse, and he does resemble early versions of the Disney character, but he is believed to have been marketed as ‘Jolly Mouse’ possibly for copyright reasons. Circa 1920s-1930s.
