- Brief description:
- The Canal, first constructed in the 1560s, was enlarged over the centuries. By the 1830s the Basin was at its most developed, when large warehouses were built along the quayside. In the centre, to the left of the Cathedral, are the buildings of Colleton Crescent, built between 1802 and 1814. To the left of the Cathedral is St Michael’s church, completed in 1867 and on the far right, the new St Leonard’s Church, completed two years before this watercolour. This object is not on display. Inscription bottom right signed & dated Arthur Shelley 1886
