Brief description:
Top bar: Gold plated silver bar with engraved text reading 'UNION LODGE'. Ribbon: Ribbed and watered silk in light blue. Bottom bar: Gold plated silver bar with engraved text reading 'CXXVII' (127). Hanging device: Disc of light blue enamel to which is pinned Invicta, the White Horse of Kent, in gold plated silver and relief. The disc is framed by ring of gold plated silver with engraved text reading 'UNION IS STRENGTH / CENTENARY'. The device is framed again by a rope design in gold plated silver, which below the disc becomes entwined by a gold plated silver banner with engraved text reading 'MARGATE / 1863'. A set square and compass in gold plated silver surmounts the device. Pin: Vertical.

Comments:
Union Lodge is one of a small number to have a non-standard centenary jewel. Prior to the mid 1860s lodges produced unofficial jewels for centenaries and those with existing jewels were allowed to continue them as a concession when a standard form was made compulsory.
