Brief description:
This medal was awarded to George Roberts Shorto for his service during the Crimean war. This medal was awarded to British and allied troops by the Sultan of Turkey for service against Russia during 1854-1856. George Shorto was in military service for 44 years and was reputed to be an excellent shot. It is recorded that in later life he enjoyed telling stories about his experiences in the Crimea. He was an active individual in the city of Exeter, being the city’s Town Clerk and a governor of the Royal Albert Memorial Museum. This object is not on display.
