Brief description:
Brassiere, Auxiliary Territorial Service, 1944 (c). This is the type of bra that was issued to new recruits when they joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) during World War Two (1939-1945). The ATS was formed in 1938 as a voluntary service for women and was attached to the Territorial Army. The women serving in the ATS were paid two thirds of the rate of male personnel. The ATS was merged into the Women’s Royal Army Corps in 1949.
