Brief description:
This medal was awarded to George Roberts Shorto for his dedication to the volunteer military force. He retired from the volunteers in 1899 after 34 years service and was awarded this Volunteer Officers Decoration in August 1903. His total service with the regular and volunteer army was 44 years and 10 months. The front, or ‘obverse’, of the medal depicts the monogram of King George VII. George Shorto was also an active individual in the city of Exeter, being the city’s Town Clerk and a governor of the Royal Albert Memorial Museum. This object is not on display.
