- The sculptor John Angel was born in Newton Abbot and moved to Exeter in 1891. In 1901 he was apprenticed to a woodcarver and later went to the Royal Academy Schools. His public sculptures include the war memorial in Northernhay Gardens. This object is on display at RAMM in the Courtyard. Inscription base incised artist’s signature and date J. ANGEL / 1916
