Apron and collar for a Grand Officer worn by Sir William Rawlins, Senior Grand Warden, 1802.

Brief description:
Rectangular apron with triangular flap in white leather with a broad dark blue silk border and blue silk backing. There are three levels in blue silk, one sewn to the flap and two to the apron. Two blue ribbons with silver bullion tassels hang from beneath the centre of the flap. The apron has a belt of blue ribbon. Collar in dark blue silk with button and loop fastening and a spangled button at the base of the collar.

Comments:
Sir William Rawlins, born 24th July 1752, died 28th March 1838. Grand Steward 1798 and Senior Grand Warden, 1802. Appointed High Sherriff for London and Middlesex, 1801 and Knighted in the same year. He was one of the founders of the Eagle Insurance Company which was incorporated into the Eagle Star Company. He was also one of the twelve original Directors of the Strand Bridge, the name by which the old Waterloo Bridge was known.
