Apron for a French Master Mason, circa 1850.

Brief description:
Cream satin apron with a small triangular flap, both with a light blue ruched ribbon trim. Decorated with embroidery, gold spangle, gold and silver purl and set paste gems, the apron has a central temple enclosing a square and compass tied with ribbon and framing a crossed maul and chisel. The temple is set in a small landscape with a mallet, trowel and level below it, the letter 'J' and an acacia tree to the left and the letter 'B' and an olive tree to the right. Above is a sun on the left and a crescent moon on the right. The flap is decorated with a radiant sun framing the letter 'G'. The apron has a light blue silk backing.
