- ‘Landscape - River Scene’ by John Gendall, about 1820-1840. This oil on canvas by Gendall depicts a stream flowing through a woodland; rocks and flowers are seen on the banks left and right. A tall tree dominates the centre right and is reflected in the light in the stream. This painting is believed to be view on the Avon looking downstream from a point just below Shipley Bridge. John Gendall (1790-1865) was an English artist who was best known for his landscapes of Devon. Gendall was an established local artist and was instrumental in the creation of the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, acting as its first curator. This object is not on display.
