- Handwritten letter dated 31st December 1943, written by Frank Erne. Kenneth Erne died in April 1943 when his plane was shot down in Denmark. Includes a message written by Frank and then an extract from Maude (Part II) by Alfred Lord Tennyson. Written in pen: 'My dear ?, Here ends a sad year and I hope 1944 will be kinder to you and all of us. My best wishes to you, Frank. A shadow flits before me, not thou, but like to thee; ah Christ, that is were possible for one to short hour to see the soul we loved, that he might tell us What and where they be. Tennyson'. Note the changes made to the poem, original refers to souls as 'they', but Frank changes it to 'he'.
