Object name(s):
fringe, sample
Brief description:
Sealed pattern fringe sample for a drummer of the 4th (or The King’s Own) Regiment of Foot, sealed in 1860. Alternate blue and white worsted fringe 1.75 inches in length. A ‘sealed pattern’ is a prototype of any item that the British Army issued to soldiers. It provided clothing or equipment suppliers with an example to copy. The regiment, now known as the King’s Own Royal Border Regiment, was first formed in 1680 as the 2nd Tangier Regiment. It became known as the 4th (or The King’s Own) Regiment of Foot as a result of the Army reforms of 1751.
