- Carpenter (1813-1885) was the second Registrar of the University of London, 1856-1879. He contributed notably to the expansion of science degrees. Previously he studied at University College London and was a professor at University College and at Bedford College. Some of his writings are available at Senate House Library. Signed portrait. In gilt gesso frame. Exhibited at Royal Jubilee Exhibition, Manchester, 1887.
