- Object name(s):
- etching on paper; print; The Priest’s House, Stepcote Hill, Exeter; The Priest’s House, Stepcote Hill, Exeter
- Brief description:
- This etching is a view down the steep street of Stepcote Hill, Exeter showing some of its old houses. In the medieval period this was one of the principal routes into Exeter and so was lined with merchants’ houses. By the early 20th century these houses had become slums but were a magnet for artists, such as Frances Hayman, seeking picturesque views. By the 1930s the only building that hadn’t been demolished is the one in the centre of the scene. Frances Marjorie Hayman was a student at the Royal Albert Memorial College of Art, Exeter around 1920-1925 and exhibited at the Exeter Art Society. This object is not on display.
