- Object name(s):
- Glass Eyes
- Brief description:
- This amazing collection came from the premises of ophthalmic optician, Mr Eubulus Williams, at 69 Queen St. Newton Abbot. Eubulus began his career as a silversmith and watchmaker in Somerset, but qualified in optics in 1900. He became a fellow of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers, of the British Optical Association (BOA) and of the Institute of Ophthalmic Opticians – would you want anyone less qualified fitting your glass eye? In 1928 Eubulus became President of the BOA and travelled to Jena in Germany to see optical lenses being ground for telescopes and operating theatres
