In 1955-56, Whistler designed for Wedgwood a series called ‘Outlines of Grandeur’, which represents famous architecture characteristic of six distinctive periods of British history. The sites pictured include Stonehenge, Tintern Abbey, Holyroodhouse, St Paul's Cathedral, New Delhi and the Clifton Suspension Bridge.
