- Object name(s):
- Photograph of the Brunels' house at 26 Cow Court, Rotherhithe
- Brief description:
- Albumen print of a house, mounted on card, with a printed portrait of Marc Isambard Brunel below. On the reverse, signed by William Gastineau (1821-72). The house has been identified as 26 Cow Court, home of Marc Isambard Brunel and Sophia Kingdom from 1835. The photograph is almost certainly commemorative, datable to after the death of Marc Isambard Brunel in 1849. For another copy of this photograph, on a different mount, see SS Great Britain, Bristol, 2014.03199. A similar image (SS Great Britain, Bristol, 2014.03254) of the house in which Marc Brunel was born in France suggests the possibility that a series was compiled of different houses related to the family.

Brunel, requesting as many of your papers as can be spared and promising to send a very comprehensive report made by competent arbitration on 53 plans referred to them in 1808. Lady Brunel is poorly following her visit to the Thames Tunnel. The letter possibly refers to Brunel's attempts to be paid for the Thames Tunnel work and invokes his experience with the block making machinery as an example. 1p.]
