- Object name(s):
- digital C-Type photographic print on; photograph; Touch-Line: Topsham Ladies Rugby Club team. Post match dressing up; Touch-Line: Topsham Ladies Rugby Club team. Post match dressing up
- Brief description:
- “There is a sense of theatre, performance and colour that exist in the game.”
A mass of imagery circulates around Rugby World Cup 2015. Sank’s challenge was not to repeat this in her photographs of Devon’s rugby communities. For Touch-Line, Sank enters this environment and seeks out something different, prompting us to look at the culture of rugby in a new way.
Sank avoids the conventions of sports photography to present a surprising and touching perspective on highly physical encounters. There are images of people playing the game, but the focus is on the culture, the group dynamics and the ritual that surrounds rugby.

- Drawing
- Brief description:
- Framed drawing of the Bull Inn in Sheep Street, Rugby. The drawing shows the street before it was pedestrianised. The Bull inn is on the left hand side, and next to it is shown a wholesaler's. There are a number of people in the street, and a handcart in front of the wholesaler's. It is unclear when the drawing was done, though the people shown in it look Victorian. It is also unclear whether the drawing is an original or a print, though the former is favoured. Under the drawing is written in blue ink: 'The Old Bull Inn, Sheep Street.' The frame is made from wood, and has a wood mount under the glass. On the back is a typed note which reads: 'The license of this inn dates from 1720. For many years the Rugby Magistrates held the Petty Sessions here.'
