- Object production person:
- Stuart Pearson Wright
- Person's association:
- Artist/Maker
- Person's biographical note:
- Painter, curator and theatre designer. Wright grew up in Eastbourne, East Sussex. He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, London, 1995-99, winning during that time the BP Travel Award in 1998 at the National Portrait Gallery, London. In 2001, he won the BP Portrait Award for his painting Gallus gallus with Still Life and Presidents. The National Portrait Gallery commissioned the portraitist to paint the author J. K. Rowling the same year. Rather than just creating an accurate depiction of his sitters, he likes to show their \'inner state\', their individuality and humanity; his self-portraits are often parodic. He curated a group drawing exhibition called Kunskog in 2009 at the Five Hundred Dollars Gallery in London, and God Bless Our Homes at the Mall Galleries, London, in 2006. For the opera Dido and Aeneas by Jevington National Opera and for his wife, singer/songwriter The Tiger’s Bride, he designed sets in 2012. He exhibits in the UK, Aberystwyth University, among others, and internationally, including destinations such as Moscow, Singapore and Frankfurt.
