- rosette; Wedding favour celebrating the marriage of Prince Albert Edward; Wedding favour celebrating the marriage of Prince Albert Edward
- Brief description:
- Wedding favour celebrating the marriage of Prince Albert Edward, Prince of Wales and Princess Alexandra of Denmark, later King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, in 1863
Souvenirs of royal occasions have long been treasured mementoes. They were kept to remember memories of special events. Specially woven silk ribbons were used to create rosettes to commemorate coronations, royal weddings and jubilees. Metal buttons and even miniature photographs were added to ribbons woven with the Prince of Wales feathers and motto ‘Ich Dien’ (‘I Serve’). A pin attached to canvas glued to the back of pleated ribbon rosette ensured that the favour stayed attached to clothing.
