- Chine collé is coming away from the support on the bottom edge but extent of lifting balanced against difficulty of remedial conservation on this kind of print suggests no action is preferable. - Text:
- This medal depicts the portrait of Marc Isambart Brunel and was issued on the occasion of the opening of the Thames Tunnel in 1843.
Sir Marc Isambard Brunel, FRS (1769 - 1849) was a French-born engineer who settled in the United Kingdom. He preferred the name Isambard, but is generally known to history as Marc to avoid confusion with his more famous son Isambard Kingdom Brunel. His most famous achievement was the construction of the Thames Tunnel.

- Object name(s):
- Photograph of Isambard Kingdom Brunel and others at the Launch of the SS Great Eastern
- Brief description:
- Late 19th or early 20th century gelatin silver print of a November 1857 photograph by Robert Howlett (1831-58), of a group of men including Isambard Kingdom Brunel, on the site of the construction of the SS Great Eastern. The label on the print gives both an incorrect date (31 January 1858) and incorrect identification of the figures shown (named as John Scott Russell, Henry Wakefield, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and Lord Derby). The other three figures are William Jacomb and Solomon Tredwell. The third figure is either Ned Hepworth or William Harrison.
