- Laurence Whistler was a renowned artist, engraver on glass, poet and author and the younger brother of Rex Whistler. In 1955-56, Whistler designed for Wedgwood a series called ‘Outlines of Grandeur’, which represents famous architecture characteristic of six distinctive periods of British history. The sites pictured include Stonehenge, Tintern Abbey, Holyroodhouse, St Paul's Cathedral, New Delhi and the Clifton Suspension Bridge.
