- Brief description:
- Pair of rank badges, Women’s Royal Army Corps attached Royal Signals, 1955 (c). The badge of the Royal Corps of Signals depicts Mercury, the winged messenger of the gods, holding a caduceus (herald's staff) in his left hand, while balancing on a globe. This example is on beech brown backing indicating that it was produced for a member of the Women’s Royal Army Corps attached to the Royal Signals. Between 1949 and 1992, all women serving with the Army were part of the Women’s Royal Army Corps (WRAC) unless they were medical, dental, veterinary officers or chaplains. When the WRAC was disbanded in April 1992 its personnel were transferred to the corps that they were serving with.
